1960s:
Diving was introduced to the Philippines by foreign nationals.

1970s:
Discovery of dive sites near Manila.

1978:
Establishment of the Philippine Commission on Sports Scuba Diving (PCSSD).

1980s:
The diving industry began to commercialize.

1987:
Introduction of technical diving equipment.

1990s:
The Philippines emerged as a global diving destination.

1996:
Turtle Islands Heritage Protected Area was established.

2000:
Major marine protected area projects were launched.

2006:
EZDIVE, the first bilingual diving magazine, was founded.

2009:
Adoption of the Coral Triangle Initiative for reef conservation.

2015:
The Philippines hosted Asia’s largest diving expo — DRT SHOW.

2019–2023:
Named “World’s Leading Dive Destination” by the World Travel Awards for five consecutive years.

2023:
Launch of the “Green Diving” initiative.

2025:
The 59th edition of DRT SHOW takes place in Manila.
